ESA BIC Bavaria is managed by AZO with support of our world-class partners.

DLR is Germany’s national research centre for aeronautics and space. Its extensive research and development work in aeronautics, space, transportation and energy is integrated into national and international cooperative ventures.

As Germany’s space agency, DLR has been given responsibility for the forward planning and implementation of the German space programme as well as international representation of Germany’s interests by the German federal government.
Aeronautics and space make substantial contributions to the way we live today. Aviation guarantees our global mobility and satellites enable worldwide communication. Remote sensing generates data about our environment, while the exploration of space leads to new knowledge about the origin and development of the solar system, its planets, and, hence, about the creation of life.
Moreover, key industries, including materials technology, medicine and software engineering, all profit from innovations made by DLR in the fields of aeronautics and space.

Fraunhofer IIS in Erlangen, Germany, ranks first among the Fraunhofer Institutes in terms of headcount and revenue. Fraunhofer IIS has reached worldwide recognition as the main inventor of MP3 and co-inventor of the MPEG-4 AAC audio coding standard.

In close cooperation with partners and clients, the institute provides research and development services in the following areas: digital radio broadcasting systems; audio and multimedia technology; digital cinema systems; design automation and integrated circuits; wired, wireless and optical networks; localisation and navigation; camera and imaging systems; nanofocus X-ray technology; medical sensor solutions; and supply chain services.
Positioning and navigation – core competencies of Fraunhofer IIS:
Positioning and tracking have myriad uses and benefit a range of industries, such as by helping driver assistance systems determine their location; steering construction machines; empowering mobile guidance systems; tracking forklifts in warehouses, soccer players on fields, or security staff on company premises; and managing assets. Each application obviously requires specific technology.
To be able to meet the requirements associated with this diversity of applications, IIS has consolidated its positioning and navigation expertise within a single research unit in Nuremberg, where more than 80 engineers and computer scientists in three departments pool a wide array of skills. The institute’s solutions range from wireless sensor networks and adaptive antennas to satellite navigation systems. Over 10 different IIS positioning technologies can be adapted, advanced, and combined to produce tailor-made prototypes and systems.

Airbus Group combines the business activities of Cassidian, Astrium and Airbus Military.

The new division is Europe’s number one defence and space enterprise, the second largest space business worldwide and among the top ten global defence enterprises. Capitalising on a broad technology basis of research and development facilities and an extensive network of partnerships and customers, the company is driving innovation in the whole space domain. It employs some 40,000 employees generating revenues of approximately EUR 14 billion per year.
Main Partners
