Three ESA BIC Bavaria Incubatees Awarded at WECONOMY 2016

Congratulations to our ESA BIC Bavaria incubatees Cevotec GmbH, evalu GmbH and TerraLoupe GmbH who were recently awarded as winners of this year's WECONOMY prize.

The forward-thinking startups won a one year long assistance with the implementation of their business idea. Next to topic-specific events such as dedicated workshops with experienced companies, the winners will receive a coaching service aiming at individual support and a renowned expert functioning as a mentor with his or her profound knowledge and expert network promotes the startups appropriately.

Cevotec won over the expert jury with its innovative technology which is capable of industrialising the production of complex carbon composites.

evalu develops the world's first mobile running coach working with Artificial Intelligence (AI). It convinced the jury with its app, which is used in combination with a smart running sole incorporating an ergonomic sensor for the benefit of the users.

TerraLoupe was awarded for its pioneering solution for automatic generation and recognition of geo-specific 3D information.

Have a close look at the future-oriented ESA BIC Bavaria startups and get inspired to become part of the Europe-wide ESA BIC network with your own business idea.

Cevotec GmbH
Cevotec is bringing the Fiber Patch Placement (FPP) technology to market - an automated, patch-based production technology for carbon fibre preforms that follows a completely new approach to manufacturing. As the one-stop shop for this technology, Cevotec provides customised production systems that include an easy-to-use software suite for patch laminates. Cevotec also offers product development and production as a service for OEMs. The customers benefit from better and lighter products of the highest quality - all through scalable serial production techniques devised directly in Germany.

There are many fitness apps out on the market for Android and iOS. is the first running coach based on Artificial Intelligence (AI). The app is used in combination with an ergonomic sensor, which is a very thin and flexible sole, designed for running shoes and measuring the ground reaction forces to evaluate running style, technique as well as weaknesses and problems. Based on this parameters the coach provides personalised feedback in real time and advice. Thereby, helps runners to improve their own running experience in a customised way. Runner-specific strength exercises are automatically integrated into the training schedule, in order to remove the weak points of the runner.

evalu is incubated at the ESA Business Incubation Centre Bavaria in Oberpfaffenhofen for one and a half years.

TerraLoupe GmbH
TerraLoupe specialises in geo-informatics and machine learning. In combining current research with real business applications, they are unlocking detailed insight through unbounded analytics "via deep learning" of precise geo imagery. This offers unique and customised solutions for industry specific needs. The startup provides its customers with high-resolution airborne image acquisition and object recognition for geo-specific 3D information. TerraLoupe's intelligent algorithms classify image content, using techniques adapted to the customer's needs. Basically, it acquires geo-images, writes code, and trains object-recognition algorithms to find the small pieces of relevance in big data. By combining high-resolution geo-data with image analytics, the company can supply its customers with internal views and valuable reports.

TerraLoupe is part of the ESA BIC Bavaria incubation programme from June 2015 to May 2017.

ESA BIC Bavaria has four selection rounds each year. The next application deadline for the incubation programme is 17 October 2016. Apply now for ESA BIC Bavaria

ESA Business Incubation Centre Bavaria
The ESA BIC Bavaria seeks entrepreneurs using space technologies in a non-space environment. That does not mean rocket science, but applies to multiple application fields such as navigation and positioning, communications techniques, Earth observation, materials, processes, signals or robotics.

ESA's Business Incubation Centre Bavaria was launched in 2009 and is ever since managed by Anwendungszentrum GmbH Oberpfaffenhofen (AZO) on behalf of the European Space Agency (ESA). With more than 110 newly founded startups and more than 1,300 new jobs under its name, AZO's incubation programme is one of Europe's most successful initiatives in promoting the commercial use of aerospace technologies. ESA BIC Bavaria and its renowned partners - ESA, the Bavarian Ministry of Economics, DLR, Airbus Defence and Space, Fraunhofer IIS and Wirtschaftsförderungsgesellschaft Berchtesgadener Land - provide startups with financial and technical support at four branch offices: Oberpfaffenhofen, Ottobrunn, Nürnberg and Berchtesgadener Land.
