Boxmesh - one of the five winning teams in THE VENTURE

In 2015, the patent-based founders' contest THE VENTURE was held for the very first time. After searching for suitable start-ups under the theme "Patent Meets Talent", the winning teams were selected in December of the same year.

Of all the teams that entered THE VENTURE, nine managed to complete the mentor programme and present their business ideas to a jury of four experts. During the mentoring process, they received training on specific subjects and support from a personal coach.

Boxmesh GmbH was one of the winners to emerge from the competition's final pitch sessions. Their prizes included a professional service package from the entrepreneurial consultants at Gründungsengel and a free license for the patent Boxmesh chose as part of THE VENTURE.

Boxmesh GmbH
The vision of Boxmesh is to ensure parcel delivery on the first try with the help of accommodating neighbours. No driving to the post office, no waiting in a queue - just pick up your parcel at your neighbour's door and enjoy your products.

Boxmesh ensures that customers never miss another parcel delivery to their private address. The system combines online shoppers who want their deliveries as fast as possible but are away at work and their at-home neighbours (those on parental leave, senior citizens, people who work from home, etc). Boxmesh identifies an available neighbour through satellite-based local allocation. This person can be selected prior to shipment (i.e. while checking out in an online store) or later on, even in real time during a parcel's actual delivery. Boxmesh thus benefits everyone involved, from online shoppers (who get their deliveries right away) and their neighbours (who are rewarded for receiving parcels) to parcel services (deliveries on first try) and online merchants (which rely on timely delivery). In addition to people living nearby, shops can act as neighbours; the boots of parked cars could even serve as delivery points, as well.

ESA Business Incubation Centre Bavaria
Boxmesh is incubated at the ESA BIC Bavaria from August 2015 to July 2017. The ESA BIC Bavaria seeks entrepreneurs using space technologies in a non-space environment. That doesn't mean rocket science, but applies to multiple application fields such as navigation and positioning, communications techniques, Earth observation, materials, processes, signals or robotics.

ESA's Business Incubation Centre Bavaria was launched in 2009 and is since managed by Anwendungszentrum GmbH Oberpfaffenhofen (AZO). ESA BIC Bavaria and its renowned partners - DLR, Airbus Defense and Space, Fraunhofer IIS and Wirtschaftsförderungsgesellschaft Berchtesgadener Land - provide startups with financial and technical support at four branch offices: Oberpfaffenhofen, Ottobrunn, Nürnberg and Berchtesgadener Land.
